ICGT wrap up, and a question of Dice Karma

Attempting to get my 3rd "Golden Ticket" and this time with free airfare I played in this past weekends ICGT.....

Let me start the wrap up by saying I had 4 great games, and W/L/D I had a really good time breaking out the newly repaired Thousand Sons CSM's for the first time since their victory at "Blobs Park". At the first annual ICGT I ended up with a respectable 3/1/0 record, with the final battle fought on table #1 vs an excellent opponent, and no matter how good my tactics were my dice failed me,  ultimately leading to my defeat...

To illustrate how bad they were, we will start with Blast Templates. In 4 games, 3 of the 4 going a full 6 rounds I fired 54 total blast templates, including Twin link shots I hit a total of 5 times, totally whiffing in my first 2 games in fact, serious not a single hit....

(yes I am OCD, I tracked the rolls after I missed 3 blast templates in a row first game)

Another example, in the final game, Two Daemon Princes attacked 2 different Chimeras in the same assault phase.......
Daemon Prince 1, with 5 attacks aiming for a tank that moved 6 hit three times needing 4's and pen'ed once needing 5 or greater on 2D6, in the end immobilizing it, and blowing off the Multi-Laser.
Daemon Prince 2, with 5 attacks again, vs a immobilized Chimera (Auto hits) and again needing 5+ on 2D6 got one glance and one pen, resulting in one stun and a weapon destroyed.... so 4 times I rolled a 4 or less on 2d6.....
Really outside 4 cover saves made back to back (4+ on 1D6) the whole game was like that, dice just rolling super below average...

Now this tourney I used my 5th set of dice, (set number 4 being stolen two weeks beforehand), and really I am looking for some tips or tricks to build some better dice Karma, Luck, or just something to get some average rolls...

So the question is, what do you do all do to get good dice, or assuming you keep the dice you have, what superstitions do follow to get some good dice love?

Weird post I know..... It's 02:01 AM, I am still working, and I started the day at 06:30... so take it with an exhausted grain of salt =-)

Greater Summoned Daemon / A Second GT Qualifier

"The Battle for Blobs Park" , hosted by the Inner Circle Gaming Club, saw me creating a new model in my first attempt at speed painting. I am a chronically slow painter, both due to my hectic work schedule and the fact I am still trying to hone my skills. I am still awed by the models people are able to paint in less then half the time the I spend, but I will keep plugging away.

The Greater Summoned Daemon I used is a model from the Reaper Range of figures, "Sokar's Avatar". It  fits the theme of my army with no conversion other then a base swap. I plan to assemble and convert a second one as a showcase model, but I needed him ASAP!

Start to Finish he took about 11.5 hours, 2.5 in prep work, trimming flash, drilling and pinning, prepping a base and priming. A full 9 hours was spent painting him, with a little help from a friend of mine, Gamesmith starting the base blend on the bodies skin, something to work towards. It's not my best work, but better then allot of my army. I was proud to add him, and prouder yet I know I can do better!

The Best of the whole experience was the new addition to my army was the fact he was key to securing the win in all 4 GT Qualifing games, either as a solid heavy hitter, or a tough distraction unit. In the end I ended up taking FIRST PLACE!, netting my second qualifier for the Vega GT and winning a good size Space Wolf army in the process! It is important to note, my 1st place win does not rob an entry from a worthy 40k player, as I already have my "Golden Ticket" it goes to the person who came in 4th place.

Sorry for the technical difficulties...

We should be back on the air shortly!!

Sorry for the delay in posts, to be honest the St. Valentines Day Massacre, and fallout from it had me a bit sick of the game, the drama, and the backstabbing... It's supposed to be a fun hobby and for a couple days there I have to say, it seemed like a colossal waste of time and money...

Going forward:

Blogside:
More posts, more photos, maybe a Tut or Two… More time spent on the hobby for the shear fun of it. Size be damned!

Gameside:

First off, I am bloody well brining am camera to every game from now, the disputes over “what was on the table were” is flipping ridiculous! No more having to defend a cover save, a photo is worth a thousand posts…

Slower play, since that seems to be a gripe with a lot of previous players..

A size chart FAQ Handout for all of my future opponents. It’s easy to say my models are large and in charge, time to prove it with some graphics…

Objectives with bases on them, and I might just get them GW approved like I did previously with my Defilers and Oblits

Learn the rules, read all the FAQ’s, and just be a badass when it comes to them….
In tourney games, I might become a bit of a hard-ass with the rules… The attempt to be fun and flexible seems to have backfired as I either get taken advantage of, or people complain later because I was not flexible with everything. The fact two different people complained about not being able to deploy infiltrators after they started the shooting phase (Keep in mind that means We rolled to seize the initiative, player one moved, and then wanted to deploy a unit they forgot about) and somehow I am evil for not letting it happen seems a bit mixed up.

And
Most importantly play to have fun…

Stay Tuned!!!

St. Valentines Day Massacre

A wicked week of work kept me from doing any modeling with the exception of two new magnetized weapons for my Thousand Sons in prep for the St. Valentines Day Massacre.

Hosted by BigGunZ-NE, they ran a five round GT qualifier for the 2011 Los Vegas GT. I went representing Inner Circle Gaming Club. First two rounds of matchups were based on Comp, after that, rounds were based on battle points. I made some mistakes, got greedy taking risky moves, had good dice and bad. But five good games later I learned alot and managed to get 2nd place overall!! Qualifying for Vegas, and only missing out on 1st place by ONE point!

Prize support was exceptional, in-fact second place netted me a full Forge World Red Scorpion upgrade pack including:

RED SCORPIONS LAND RAIDER DOORS x1
RED SCORPIONS RHINO DOORS x2
RED SCORPIONS SYMBOLS x1
RED SCORPIONS MKIV VENERABLE DREADNOUGHT
RED SCORPIONS VANGUARD VETERANS WITH VETERAN SERGEANT CULLN COMMANDER CULLN
RED SCORPIONS VETERANS WITH VETERAN SERGEANT HAAS UPGRADE PACK
RED SCORPIONS TERMINATOR SHOULDER PADS x1
RED SCORPIONS MARINE SHOULDER PADS x3
BRASS ETCH RED SCORPIONS

Now I have to decide if I am going to use them, or find someone who would be willing to trade. I hate to let go of a hard won prize pack, but I really am dedicated to my Thousand Sons!
